Our RDD sampling frame is based on the largest database of working residential telephone exchanges and working blocks in the United States. Thus, we can draw from any part of the U.S.A. — no matter how large or small. The information is updated quarterly, and cross checked monthly against area code and assigned exchange lists furnished by the telephone companies. Exchanges and/or working blocks designated for business or governmental telephones, car/boat/plane mobile units, and other commercial or institutional services, are screened out. Random digit (RDD) sampling is the generally thought of as the most representative means of sampling for marketing research. Short for Random Digit D ialing, RDD samples are configured to be highly representative of any given population. Marketing researchers tend to favor random digit samples for studies when representation and sample accuracy is of key importance. As an important point, RDD sampling includes both those households listed in telephone directories and those with unlisted, or non-published, numbers. It is generally known that households with unlisted phone numbers are somewhat different, tending to be more upscale higher income consumers who have chosen to have their phone number "unpublished" for privacy issues.
